The Health Unit is required to inspect and respond to complaints in personal service settings. Personal service settings fall under Regulation 136/18 which includes hairdressing, tattooing, body piercing, nail services, electrolysis and other aesthetic services. Infection control practices are important in these settings as they can pose a risk of infection or contracting a serious illness to both clients and workers. Our public health inspectors conduct inspections of all businesses that are based on this regulation and the Ontario Guide to the Infection Prevention and Control in Personal Service Settings, 3rd edition.
Under the Personal Service Settings Regulation (136/18) there is a requirement for any personal service setting to notify the Health Unit 14 days in advance of commencing operation, adding a new service to an existing facility or renovating their facility. You can complete this notification by completing our online personal service setting notification form.
The Personal Service Settings Regulation requires records to be kept and maintained within your facility. A type of record that is required is related to the accidental exposure of a client or worker to blood or body fluids. You may download our Accidental Exposure to Blood/Body Substance Recording form to meet this requirement.
