Health Equity
The Health Unit recognizes our responsibility to take action and improve the health and wellness of our community, especially those who are impacted by inequities. In accordance with both our organizational values and our Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity Policy, we understand that to do so, we must identify and remove discriminatory biases and systemic barriers in our practice; be accountable, thoughtful and evidence informed in our approach; and foster an organizational culture that affirms difference, fosters diversity, and cultivates inclusivity.
We continue to develop inclusive physical Health Unit spaces (including all-gender and gender inclusive washrooms) that reflect and address the needs of all people; provide our staff with education and training to offer culturally safe services; and update our procedures, forms and practice to offer equitable, inclusive services and public health information across our district. We also work with and learn from the experiences, wisdom and skills of other agencies and members of our community to build understanding of the people we serve, expand our reach, and collaborate on collective impact.
The Health Unit is committed to being a respectful, safe and supportive environment for all employees and clients; to offering equitable health services; and to contributing to our vision of a healthy community for all.
