NIPISSING & PARRY SOUND, ON – More than 1,200 COVID-19 vaccine appointments were scheduled yesterday for individuals in the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (Health Unit) region born in 1941 or before. It was the first day appointments could be booked for individuals in this category. The number of confirmed appointments on day one includes those that were scheduled through the online and telephone provincial booking systems, and those made through the Health Unit Call Centre.
“We were very happy to see so many appointments scheduled,” says Andrea McLellan, Director of COVID-19 Immunization Strategy at the Health Unit. “Even with some technical difficulties with the scheduling system in the morning, most people were very patient. Seniors have been waiting a long time for this, and it’s a huge relief for them to know exactly when they’ll be getting the vaccine.”
Individuals must have an appointment in order to attend one of the upcoming COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics in the Health Unit District. Appointment booking is currently only open for those born in 1941 or before. The Health Unit reminds anyone calling in to please be patient and continue trying as the Call Centre experiences an extremely high volume of phone calls. Families are encouraged to support their parents or grandparents who are aged 80 and above with booking their vaccine appointment online to avoid waiting on hold over the phone.
To book an appointment through the Health Unit Call Centre, call 1-800-563-2808. Choose option 5, and follow the prompts. The Health Unit does not ask for financial information or social security numbers over the phone. If you believe you are receiving fraudulent calls, contact your local authorities or the Anti-Fraud Centre.
Booking is also available by calling the Provincial Vaccine Information Line at 1-888-999-6488.
