Deadly Opioid Carfentanil Circulating In OntarioThe Health Unit is warning the public that the deadly opioid carfentanil is circulating across Ontario. The Chief Medical Officer of Health for Ontario has informed Public Health Units of a recent increase in the presence of carfentanil within the province. Preliminary mortality data from the Chief Coroner for Ontario, has also shown an increase in carfentanil-related deaths in the first four months of 2019.

TICK TESTS POSITIVE FOR LYME DISEASE
NORTH BAY, ON - The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (Health Unit) has confirmed a blacklegged tick found in Dunchurch tested positive for the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi, a bacteria that can cause Lyme disease. To date in 2019, 14 ticks have been sent for identification, with nine being identified as blacklegged. Only one of those nine ticks tested positive for the bacteria that causes Lyme disease.

OVERDOSE ALERT SYSTEM
NORTH BAY, ON - On May 27, the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (Health Unit) is launching a real-time Overdose Alert System. The reporting system collects information about overdoses and other negative drug reactions reported by agencies who respond to an overdose or who hear of an overdose through their clients.

NORTH BAY HEALTH UNIT IMPLEMENTS CHECK&GO!
NORTH BAY, ON - The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (Health Unit) is making it easier for individuals to know a food establishment’s inspection results with the implementation of Check&GO!; a colour coded signage program launching June 3, 2019.
