The main purpose of the Teaching Kitchen is to provide space for food literacy and food safety programming geared to priority populations and community groups.
The Health Unit’s accessible teaching kitchen is attached to a large classroom that can hold 54 people with row seating (or 24 people, with tables and chairs). The kitchen is equipped with a:
- Low countertop to increase accessibility for those who wish to be seated or are in a wheelchair
- Commercial dishwasher
- Stove tops (two)
- Wall ovens (two)
- Handwashing sinks (two)
- Three compartment sink
- Kitchen tools and equipment
- Video camera and screen to project teaching moments for all to see

How to Book the Teaching Kitchen
The Teaching Kitchen is available for use by not-for-profit community groups. If you have any questions or if you wish to use the Teaching Kitchen, please fill out the facility use application and agreement and email teaching.kitchen@healthunit.ca.
Please Note: Use of the facility is not permitted for the purpose of a group or individual to generate a profit, prepare food and/or beverages to sell, or for private functions. Groups booking the teaching kitchen must have a minimum of one person onsite who has completed the Food Handler Certificate Course.
